New Delhi: More than 100 delegates participated in the Webinar organized by International Chamber of Media And Entertainment Industry on the topic- Effect of Covid 19 on Indian Cinema.
“Media and Entertainment Industry is the 6th biggest industry in the country. We are touching now 2,35, 000 crore rupees turnover. It employees Ten million people and another ten million are connected through associated industries like hospitality, tourism, transport, engineering, fashion, design etc. We are the largest film industry of the World. 2600 Films are produced every year in 28 languages. 11000 theatres and 15 million audiences every day look for cinemas in theatres. Can you imagine we are in doldrums,” initiated Dr. Sandeep Marwah President of ICMEI.
“We are loosing 150 crore rupees revenue every day and estimated loss may be by now is approximately 4000 crores. The real outlets of Indian Cinema that is theatres are now closed for almost 45 days. This has also delayed the release of many films,” said Pankuj Parashar renowned film director known for his films like Jalwa, Chaalbaaz, Banares.
“The fact is that there is no shooting and millions of people are sitting idle in hope. God knows when this whole pandemic is going to be over. Probably we have to live with it and adjust ourselves according to this emerging new situation,” added Shashi Ranjan well known actor, producer and director famous for Dhoom Dharaka, Dobara. Etc.
“Never ever something like this happened. We are all learning with situation. I am also worried for the daily wagers who are only connected to Indian Film Industry and they are in millions. The fact is there is no flow of money from any corner,” expressed Vimal Kumar film Director Ashiqui Dewangi, Rajajaji, Chotte Sarkar etc.
“We are hoping that things will improve by august or September and the hustle and bustle will start slowly and gradually in the main Hindi and regional cinema too. We still have to look for better ways of shooting in the most controlled manner,” said Sukhwant Dhadda director of film like Chooriyan, Ek Chadar Malli Si, Siyasat, etc.
“We are still taken aback by the situation. No one is dare enough to take a chance. Films in India are star based. If stars are not comfortable probably we all have to wait till that time,” added Atul Mohan editor Complete Cinema.
“I am ready to take the first step by finalizing small unit, after all the required covid 19 test. It has to be single location story with limited cast and crew. I am sure this will be a fruitful exercise,” added Ashok Tyagi Director of Bharat Bhagya Vidhata, Surkhiyan, Return of Jewel Thief.
